...VIRGINITY .... THE HYMEN .... WHAT'S IT'S PURPOSE ... WHO DOES IT BELONG TO...
Many people believe that the hymen is a layer of tissue that completely seals the opening of the vagina until sexual intercourse ruptures it. That is not true. The hymen is the external outer area of the vagina. Females in many of the other animal species also have hymens. These include horses, cats, dogs, elephants, bats, chimpanzees, whales, and guinea pigs. A more complete list of animals with hymens can be found at www.Wikipedia.org. Some species of whales can actually control the hymen, opening and closing it again to reseal the vagina to keep water out of the reproductive organs.
In the womb, there is no outside opening to the vagina.. Sometime, before birth, the layer of tissue that covers the vagina separates. In some females, the separation is complete, but in most females the separation is incomplete, partially covering the entrance to the vagina. Scientists who study human anatomy believe that there in no biological purpose for the hymen. So they have given it a purpose, proof of virginity, a way to know if the female did or did not have sexual intercourse. On the surface, that appears to be correct. That is until you realize that the research is done from a male's point of view which is strongly influenced by that famous male ego. Nature may have had a different idea in mind. The purpose of the hymen appears to be to protect the vaginal opening and the developing internal sex organs from damage or infection. Once a female has reached puberty, pubic hairs act as a filtering system to reduce the possibility of an infection reaching the internal organs. In most young women, the hymen does not completely cover the vaginal opening, therefore allowing the menstrual blood to leave the body. However, in some young women, the hymen did not separate prior to birth and completely covers the vaginal opening blocking the flow of blood and must be surgically cut.
Some females accidentally rupture their hymen during childhood. These young women have not had sexual intercourse. Yet, in some societies, there are those who would say that these young women are no longer virgins because their hymens are no longer in tact and therefore not a suitable bride. So, who does the hymen belong to? Who does your arm belong to, or your ear or your navel? You and only you. Same with the hymen, you and only you. It is as much a part of you as your knee, your little finger or your heart.
In enters the male ego. Many men are unsure of their sexual performance. So their thinking goes.. “If I am the only sexual partner she has, she will have no one to compare me to”. She won't know if I am a good lover or not. Then there is that old and lingering view of women as property. Do you like being put in the same category as a man's car, a man's basket ball, or his shoes, or his dog? Basically that is what is going on. You are just one item on a whole list of items that the male sees as his possessions. And males don't like anyone messing with their "stuff". Men see the hymen as proof that no one is messing with their stuff. Except this time the "stuff" is you. You are a separate human being in your own right. You are not somebody's property or possession and you don't need to be treated as such. So, again, who does the hymen belong to? It belongs to you and only you.
