Finding Your Joy

What makes you happy? What puts a smile on your face and makes you loose all track of time? When was the last time you felt joyful? Listen to the spontaneous laughter of a small baby? That is the sound of pure joy. It is the sound of their joyful laughter and giggles that make small babies and little children so appealing to us. It taps into a place deep inside us. It reminds us of a time when we too felt that joy, that freedom to be so vibrant and alive.

It is time to find your joy again.

Think of all the things that exist in our world. Is it the colors of the flowers in the spring, or the look of frozen ice cycles hanging from the tree branches on a frosty day that makes you feel alive? Or perhaps the sound of a violin playing a haunting melody? Is it the feel of potter’s clay in your hands as you mold it into shape or loosing yourself in a good book? Is it an artist’s sketch book with a stick of charcoal that taps into the joy deep inside you?

Make a list of all the things you like to do. Keep adding things to your list as you remember more and more things that please you, that makes you feel good, that makes you feel alive. Dig deep, pulling out of your memory, times when you just seem to let go and magic happened. There in lies your joy.

It’s time to experience your joy again.

Put a bit of joy into each day. Short on time, then close your eyes, get still and be quiet, even if only for a few minutes, and remember a time when you did let go and you lost yourself in the magic.

Reclaim and celebrate your joy.
