Becoming A Leader .... Madam President

Someday a Woman will be President

When was the last time someone asked you “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Most little boys are asked often, so often; that what do you want to be becomes one of their games. Boys will answer … a fireman, a policeman, a cowboy, an astronaut. And, in return, they are then asked “Don’t you want to be the President?” Little girls are never asked if they want to grow up to be the President. So, I ask it now. Do you want to be the President of the United States?

If not …. why not? It’s a job, just a job. Somebody has to do it.. So, why not you? Are you surprised that I asked you if you wanted to be President? You could, you know. That is if you wanted to. Do you want to? Or is the thought of maybe one day being the president so out of the realm of your thinking that it sounds absurd. Why does it sound absurd? It doesn’t sound absurd to boys when they are asked. So, again, would you want to be president if you had the chance? Geraldine Ferraro was the first female Vice Presidential candidate (1984). Geraldine Ferraro wanted to be the Vice President. She didn’t get elected. But she dared to try. Hillary R. Clinton has set her sights on being the President.

What would it take to be the president? It would take courage. Do you have courage? It would take leadership skills? Do you have leadership skills? It would take being smart. Are you smart? Before you answer no, I ask you, how can you be sure you aren’t smart or don’t have leadership skills or aren’t courageous? Maybe you have all those skills and many more hidden just waiting for you to dig down deep inside you and pull them out. Would you like to find out? It is easier than you think.

Under the heading “Finding Your Voice” is an article called 18 Ways to Stand Out In a Crowd. It is a list of many different things you can do to discover your hidden skills. It was created by Marie C. Wilson, president and founder (founder means that it was her idea and she did most of the work) of The White House Project. Check it out at www.thewhitehouseproject.com

The main purpose of The White House Project is to help young women discover and strengthen their leadership skills. Their goal is to get more women into leadership roles who will then run for political office, even the office of the presidency.

So, again, I ask you …. Do you want to be president? Believe that it is possible. Believe that you could. The White House Project says it is possible. And they are even willing to devote their time and money on helping you get there. So, get started right now, today. Go to 18 Ways To Stand Out in a Crowd. Read through the list and pick out of a few things that appeals to you and that you are open to doing. Start uncovering your hidden talents, start becoming the best you can be.
